Order of Sacred Change

Picture
"I urge, then, first of all that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone. For kings, and all those in authority, that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of truth."

On February 16, 2010 I was teaching in Louisville, Mississippi. As I was finishing my message I heard a marching band passing the church and went out to watch. I had to run down the street to get in front of the band so I could take a picture with my phone. I noticed a girl standing by me with a hood pulled up on her head. It seemed that she may have been mentally challenged.

Wanting to engage her in conversation I asked her why on a Sunday in February was there a marching band. She responded with a simple, "I don't know."

Don't ask me why, but as I turned from her God pressed words into my mind, "The Order of Sacred Change."

"What does that mean, Lord?"

"Raise a prayer force for the Council of Bishops."

I have learned over the years that when God speaks it is often contrary to what you would expect. I know it was God speaking, because praying for the bishops was far from my mind. I actually had to repent on the spot, because I realized bishops are not my favorite topic. I immediately made a list of bishops and began praying for them every day.

My prayers have been that the bishops of the United Methodist Church would become "change agents." I pray that we would see sacred changes that bring the Church into the harvest fields and the word decline will disappear from our vocabulary. I pray the Bishops will lead the church to assault the gates of hell to bring out the captives. That they would champion the cause of the least, the last, the lost and even a young disenfranchised girl standing cold on a corner in Louisville.

So much hinges on the leadership of the Church, yet so few pray for them on a regular basis. Evangelicals are angry, average church goers ignore them and newcomers don't even know who they are or what they do.

What tides might turn if we could get 100,000 people to invest prayer time on behalf of the bishops. Quite possibly the ship would dislodge from the sandbar and begin to sail again. We often get what we pray for. What would the amount of time you personally sow in prayer for the bishops reap?

Would you join me? Could you find others who will pray from the prayer guide provided on this website? Can you get the name of your bishop listed in your bulletin? Will you put their picture in your prayer room?

Register here and we will contact you through Constant Contact. We will send you crafted prayers that will help you pray. These prayers will not be political, but positive, as we petition God to cover and lead our bishops. What might happen if our bishops felt love and support from their constituents? Perhaps the Holy Spirit might fall on us and lead us to fulfill the Great Commission.

Don't forget to pray for your DS and your pastor....

...And we will have peaceful lives, quiet lives, all godliness and holiness. We will please God and more will come to be saved... Terry
